Online marketing has been on a roller coaster ride last year. There were new platforms, new channels and new tools that emerged all over the Internet. The online marketing changes that happened last year have given opportunities for online businesses to reach new users and successfully turn them into loyal customers!

Indeed, last year was an exciting year for online marketers, but what about this year? What is next?

The marketing concept a few years ago will still be the same for 2014. The only elements in marketing that evolve are the channels where you should put your marketing efforts.

What are they?

Social Media. Social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest, Tumblr and Instagram have become very popular for businesses for the last five years. All these social media sites allow them to produce engaging content in different media forms and increase the number of their audience. The use of social media will continue to rise this year and will be one of the biggest contributors to increase a businesses ROI!

Content Marketing. Content is and will always be the “King” when it comes to online marketing strategies. Information is everything and human beings look for information that are useful in their daily lives. Businesses can establish authority and gain trust with consumers by consistently creating valuable content through different forms. The content does not really revolve only on text based articles and news releases, but also on the following media types:

  • Slide presentation
  • Image ads
  • Videos
  • White papers
  • E-books/pdf files
  • Infographics
  • eNewsletters and even emails!

SEO. Google has made many changes in their search algorithm and forced SEO optimizers to change their search engine optimization strategies. Many believe that the changes of algorithm made by Google in their search engine slowly diminish the importance of SEO. NO! SEO will always be a part of online marketing strategies. It will still be the key for businesses to get found on the web. As long as search engine lives, SEO will always be around. It has just evolved into something much greater than what SEO specialists did before.

Elements like user experience and interface, microformats, social signals, etc. have replaced some of the redundant SEO methods due to the frequent changes of search engine algorithms.

Branding. More and more companies focus on establishing their brand names through the use of different social media channels. Search engines like Google also give more emphasis on focusing on the business brand. Make sure that your brand message is crystal clear about who you are, what you do or offer and for whom your services and products are.

Unlike in the past, online marketing methods nowadays are focused more on showing your expertise to your market than constantly self-promoting your products and services.

Where is your online strategy focus this 2014?
